Michael Birchard

Vice President - diversity, equity & inclusion at Mitchell Hamline School of Law

Michael Birchard is the vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. He comes to Mitchell Hamline after more than 20 years at Minnesota State where he last served as associate vice president for equity and inclusion at Dakota County Technical College and Inver Hills Community College. While at Minnesota State, Birchard was an early member of the Minnesota State Indigenous Men and Men of Color Workgroup, which focuses on recruiting and retaining students and employees to the Minnesota State system who are Indigenous men and men of color. Birchard has a master’s degree in Social Responsibility and bachelor’s degrees in American Studies, Human Relations, and Minority Studies. He has taught courses on democratic citizenship, Race in America, human relations, leadership, American Indian culture, and community organizing at North Hennepin Community College, Saint Cloud State University, Minneapolis College, and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
